Developed by the Ted Manson Foundation, a charitable trust that promotes community housing in Auckland, this project aimed to provide safe, warm and healthy homes at an affordable price. It differs from most developments of its type as it includes a mix of units managed by a cooperative alongside privately owned apartments.
The Westlight Apartments dominate the skyline in the West Auckland suburb of Glen Eden and offer spectacular views of the Waitakere Ranges and the surrounding countryside. The two 10-storey tower blocks also also feature generous podium areas on the lower floors.

The full-surface self-adhesive SOLITEX EXTASANA ADHERO airtightness and weathering-protection membrane provides continuous watertight and windtight protection behind the outer cladding/rainscreen layer here.
The long UV exposure resistance of the SOLITEX EXTASANA ADHERO membrane was very beneficial on the Westlight Apartments project in West Auckland. Due to the logistical challenges of building a multi-storey structure, there is often a delay in covering the weathering-protection membrane as compared with a less complex single-level build. The superior UV resistance of the SOLITEX EXTASANA ADHERO membrane came into play here: it can be used to provide weathering protection for up to 180 days in New Zealand.
Seamless protection is key to the performance of a weathering-protection membrane: all penetrations made through the SOLITEX EXTASANA ADHERO membranes were sealed using TESCON NAIDECK nail sealing tape.
